Migrating to your own iPad

We are responding to the concern of losing your work when returning your iPad to the program upon graduation. Nothing on your iPad is permanent or immovable. Follow the tutorial to migrate everything from your Hunter iPad to your own iPad and reset your Hunter iPad by removing all your personal files and apps. Feel free to stop by the office if you need any assistance with this.

The following was adapted from corybohon from MacLife Forums.  Check out his blog for other tutorials.

Back Up the Old iPad

Navigate to Settings > iCloud > Storage and Backup, and scroll to the bottom of the page.

Once there, tap on the “Back Up Now” button to begin the process. Depending on how long it has been since the last backup and the speed of your internet connection, this process may take quite a while.

When the backup to iCloud has completed, you should see an updated date and time in the “Last Backup” area.

Set Up and Restore the New iPad

After you have completed a backup of your old iPad, it’s time to start up your new iPad and restore your applications and data.

After starting up your new iPad, the set up assistant will walk you through setting up your device. Select your language, country, choose your location services preferences, and then connect to your wireless network.

When you get to the “Set Up iPad” screen, select “Restore from iCloud Backup.” After tapping Next, you will be prompted to enter your iCloud login. Enter your Apple ID and password, and then hit Next.

When you see the “Choose Backup” screen, select the latest Backup of your old iPad, and then click the blue Restore button to begin the restore process.

This process will take a while, so go get a nice hot cup of tea or coffee, and watch the progress bar advance on your new iPad 3. After the restore has been completed, your new device will be ready for using.

Reset your Hunter iPad and remove all personal files.

Navigate to Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Content and Settings.  WARNING:  THIS PERMANENTLY REMOVES EVERYTHING FROM YOUR IPAD.  CONFIRM THAT YOU HAVE BACKED UP OR MIGRATED EVERYTHING YOU WANT TO KEEP FIRST!
